Once they finished the third lap, the pace car pulled away and the Banpei models sped forward.

Bell shouted into the radio, "GREEN, GREEN, GREEN!" and Keiichi floored it.

[Auir]

And thus the race was on!

[paladin313]

Lap after lap, stop after stop, they went on, K1 spending most of his time drafting the other cars, not trying to beat them.

[Auir]

"He's not going to do anything?" wondered Skuld out loud as she played with the joysticks.

[paladin313]

Chihiro smirked and said, "He is...but not what you want him to do.  He's biding his time.  He knows this is a 500 mile race.  He doesn't have to push his car all that hard if he does not want to."

[Auir]

"Eeh, that sounds boring. Are all races this long?"

[paladin313]

"Some are 400 miles, some 250...it all depends on the race and the track.  Believe me, when there are 36 cars out on the track at the same time, it can get pretty exciting.

[Auir]

"Hmm... 36 cars right?" asked Skuld.

[paladin313]

"Yes...typically."

[Auir]

"Okay, better start getting to work tonight then. We want Keiichi to win don't we? And that means lots and lots of practice."

[paladin313]

"What are you going to work on?"

[Auir]

"Building lots and lots of Banpeis! So Keiichi can really race like he was in nascar right?"

[paladin313]

"Whoa...you could have that ready for tomorrow?"

[Auir]

"Well, no. But I'll have it done by the end of this week!"
