He was already ripping into turn one, averaging about 187 mph, and people were cheering wildly: he was matching the drivers in the top seven of the time trials.  However, he seemed to come out of the turn into the backstretch a bit high.  He had to compensate and slowed a bit, but got it right back halfway down the backstretch.  An older fellow came up with a bushy mustache, sunglasses, and a cowboy hat and said to them, "Yeehaw...that boy has a lot of heart.  Not bad for a first run on the tri-oval."
Fear is ignorance expressed through panic.

"who are you?" asked Z.
"The secret to creativity is combining logic and science with Fantasy and fiction"

"Sorry, should have introduced myself: some call me 'The King.'"
Fear is ignorance expressed through panic.

"what does everyone else call you" joked Z

However, Tamiya, Otaki, and Chihiro knew who this was and said, "Richard Petty as I live and breathe!"
Fear is ignorance expressed through panic.

"I really got to get out more," sighed Z as he still had no idea who he was.

Chihiro said, "You're telling me you don't recognize the single most successful driver in NASCAR history?"
Fear is ignorance expressed through panic.

"I didn't even know the rules until Ian explained them to me so I could understand," deadpanned Z

"So, what brings you here?"
He said, "I'm here with my own team, but I heard we had a Japanese rookie, and I wanted to see how he handled the track?"
Fear is ignorance expressed through panic.

"Doing pretty well, isn't he?" Urd asked.

As Kei hit the far turn--lower this time--he said, "Well, went into the bank turn too high the first time, that's what threw him off in the backstretch.  I think he got it now.  Let's see how he does on the second lap."
He was rocketing by the start/finish line as he was saying that, heading into the second of two laps.
Fear is ignorance expressed through panic.

"So how would you rate Kei's performance all things considered, mr King?" asked Z
"The secret to creativity is combining logic and science with Fantasy and fiction"

He chuckled at the "king" thing, and he said, "Not shabby for a rookie, but he still needs some seasoning.  We'll see how he does in the sprints."
Fear is ignorance expressed through panic.

"agreed," said Z, "though I don't know much about professional racing."

"Then...how'd you get on the team?"
Fear is ignorance expressed through panic.
