"Tenchi Muyo!" was a complete Phenomenon in Japan throughout most of the 1990's...
and Picked up real hard in popularity in the U.S. for a brief period in the early-2000's.

i was there at ground zero... and TM! was, essentially, the first major Anime series i was deeply invested in that was not Mecha-related.

In Fact; My TM! Fandom was centrally responsible for driving me into Anime Character Dolls and their Customization potential.

i started out with a full set of TOYNAMI's very clumsy 12in. TM! Dolls around 2001/2002...
and in 2023/2024, i came back Full Circle, after a fashion, by acquiring TAKARA's two-doll mid-90's Juraiian Alien-Princess pair,
both of which being long-time Grails of mine... and both being very amenable to an upgrade to the fabulous 2018 OBITSU 26cm. Doll Body~

PS TV? Do you mean Magical Project S? 26 episodes of Tsunami in English my friend. Still, I'd be very worried about getting sued. Some of these VA's are very protective of their voices, and rightfully so.

Tenchi is what happens when a dream is given shape by an artist. I'd love to see some of these guys get back together to do something interesting. Maybe remake GXP?

Why does this thread exist? Because Yousuke Kuroda is series director and wrote the script. Honestly, I came for the metal and blood. Found Kuroda-san getting top-billing in the credits. Was more enthused. Oh. Did I mention its full of heavy metal references? Watch a couple episodes and you can easily see his influence. Also, did I mention HEAVY METAL! Literally, spells and cities in the series are named after the greatest metal bands ever.

Seriously, though. Its not as hard-core as I was expecting. And it has the comedy side to lighten things up. Its worth a watch.

Take Tenchi, completely invert his personality, stick him in an fantasy world with a bunch of gorgeous women (of course), and sprinkle in a bunch of metal references. What could go wrong?

Sort of, this is a Hayashi interview after all. I'd say their combined vision of Tenchi came from working together on BGC. Kajishima's designs and core ideas go back to his high school years. Hayashi shaped it, gave the ideas structure and should be commended for it and is rightly given co-creator credit for the series- but the ideas were in Kajishima's head earlier than that. Given that structure, Kajishima finally had a template to further develop his existing story ideas.

Its interesting that the genesis of Tenchi Muyo was from idea that Kajishima had for a light hearted episode for BGC.  Artmic basically recycled and transformed a few of their ideas before as seen here.

Quote from: Dreamr on April 08, 2024, 11:56:52 PMSome time ago, it occurred to me that with current technology, it is possible to get reasonable voice imitations of the seiyuu performing their parts.

Last time I looked into it, you needed about 45 minutes of voice samples.  So Tenchi Masaki and Sasami shouldn't be a problem, but Tsunami probably would, even with the Pretty Sammy OAV.  PS TV was never dubbed.

But it's very possible those requirements have been lowered, or will be in the future.

Either way, it'll be a lot of work to cut voice samples from the all the episodes up and splice together... unless there's an AI tool to do that too.  Which wouldn't surprise me.

It's all just gonna get insanely easier as the years pass though.

I just noticed something on page 32. There is a basket with Ryo-ohki in it right next to Sasami. But Ryo is next door with Ryoko. oops. Maybe its just a plushie?
